La Fausto Coppi is an Italian Granfondo first organised in 1987.

The Granfondo pays tribute to one of Italy’s cycling heroes and is set on the less crowded side of the Italian Alps. The centre of it all is the commune of Cueno with the driving force behind the event being the local cycling Associazione Sportiva Fausto Coppi. The event is supported by saddle manufacturer Selle San Marco with increasing support from other big Italian brands such as Balocco, sponsors of the Giro d’Italia.

La Fausto Coppi offers the opportunity to choose between two distances, the Granfondo covering 177km (or 110 miles) or the Mediofondo of 111km (or 68 miles). Here you won’t be climbing on the wide roads that you might see further north, instead you will be riding on narrow roads and if not for the good tarmac conditions you might be transported back to the reminiscent old days of cycling, reminiscing about  Il Campionissimo in action on his quest for glory.

Regardless of your choice of route, you will climb the magnificent Colle Fauniera and on the way to back to Cuneo encounter the last climb of the Madonna del Colleto – which at only 6.7km in length has a challenging average of 8% gradient.

This is an amateur Granfondo but due to its legendary connections with cycling, it has received requests from pro-riders who want to take on the local climbs. The organisers have made exceptions in the last few years and as long as the professionals stay away from the general classification they are welcome to join. The field is mostly made of Italian riders but over the years it has built an international audience with riders from over 25 different countries from all continents. The organisers are especially proud of the event’s jersey as it features the flags of the participants’ country of origin and riders are encouraged to wear it during the event. This makes for an incredible sight of an international peloton united by the legend of Fausto Coppi.

Join us and enjoy the hospitality of the people of Cuneo. We have prepared a four-day tour including accommodation (twin room) with breakfast included, guaranteed entry to ride the event and a few rides planned ahead of the main event.
